Internet fails to kill snail mail: PM Narendra Modi receives 3,000 to 5,000 letters everyday - NEWS

New Delhi:  Facebook and Whats App may have killed the old age practice of writing letters, but a look at a post office responsible for delivering snail mail at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence will force you to change your opinion.

According to a news report published in the Wall Street Journal, at an average, 3,000 to 5,000 letters addressed to Prime Minister of India arrive at the Nirman Vihar Post Office in New Delhi.

No other Prime Minister, even before the advent of internet, when snail mails were the order of the day, enjoyed such popularity in the country.

So much so, the Nirman Bhawan Post Office had to especially recruit two additional staff to counter the large influx of mail from the supporters of the PM.

The traffic was especially heavy during the recently concluded festive season, when people from across the country wrote in to wish the Prime Minister.

Many attribute the rise in popularity of the PM to his ability to connect with the people at the grass-root level.

A record, 1,00,000 letters arrived for the PM on his birthday on 17 September.

Most of these letters are simple expressions of support and gratitude. Some of the letters addressed the Prime Minister as "The Pride of IndiaNarendra Modi", "His Excellency", "Namo, Namo, the conqueror'.

Rest are mostly complaints, request to expediate a pending process or simply request for assistance.
