Madhya Pradesh, one
of India ’s
less developed states, has taken a step in to the 21st century by giving
government email communications the same status as postal correspondence.
Last month Chief
Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan approved the landmark decision which,
surprisingly, puts the state of 75 million at the forefront of India ’s
public sector.
All civil servants
are now able to communicate with citizens and one another without reaching for
the postage stamps or fax machine. According to senior officials with the state
government, email will enable faster decision-making by cutting out the average
five day delivery time for inter-city postal services within the state.
The email services will be provided by India ’s National Informatics Centre.
