Desam Party MP Kesineni Srinivas (Nani) has said that efforts are being made to
set up the state Head Post Office for the 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh in the
city.
Speaking
as chief guest at the valedictory of the three-day Andhra Pradesh Postal
Philately Exhibition (APPEX-2014) at Vedika Function Hall, Benz Circle here
Saturday, he said that a proposal had been made by the Postal Department
for the arrangement of the state Head Post Office at Vijayawada and promised
that he would request the Minister of Telecommunications and Information Technology, shri Ravi Shankar Prasad for the funds for its establishment. He
said he would also request funds for the undeveloped post offices in areas like
Jaggaiahpet and One
Town .
He
appreciated the Postal Department for successfully organising the philately
exhibition. “Earlier, our preferred medium to contact our loved ones was
writing letters, but now we are totally dependent on technology. By conducting
such exhibitions we can spread awareness about Indian culture,” he said.
Chief Postmaster General, B V Sudhakar said that around 52,000 stamps had been
displayed in the exhibition in various classes. “Philately is one of the best
ways to know about many things,” he added.
Several
philatelists, who participated in the event, were presented with medals in
various categories. Certificates were given away to the students of various
schools in the city who won the painting, quiz, ‘Phila Walk’, ‘Phila Hunt’ and
other competitions. Later, ‘my stamp’ of Kesineni Srinivas was released by BV
Sudhakar and handed it over to him. Post Master General, Mails and Business Development, K Sandhya Rani, Post Master General, Vijayawada, M Sampath and Post Master General, Vishakhapatnam, Sharda Sampath participated.
