DISCUSSIONS HELD TODAY ALSO FAILED
First time in the history, entire GDS employees numbering
about more than two and a half lakh went on strike closing down 1,29,500 Branch
Post Offices. In an exemplary show of solidarity in many circles the departmental
employees too joined the strike and made it 100% success.
The rock like unity of the GDS has compelled the Department
to hold three round discussions with the striking GDS union on 18th,
21st & 22nd. Secretary, Department of Posts, Director
General, Posts, Addl. DG Posts and other senior officers were present.
Today Regional Labour Commissioner called for conciliatory meeting
and all the unions attended the meeting. Senior Officers of the department were
also present.
The demand of the unions to give a written assurance
regarding the date of implementation of Kamalesh Chandra Committee will be
implemented was not acceptable to the department and hence the talks failed. Instead
of giving clear out assurance, the Officers went on requesting the Unions to
call off or defer the strike.
All the Unions unanimously rejected the appeal of the
department and decided to go ahead with the indefinite strike.
While congratulating the rank and file workers and leaders
who are working day and night to make the strike a grand success, we request
you all to continue the effort to keep the percentage of the strike 100% till
the Govt and Department come forward for an honourable settlement.
