KANPUR: A postman in Uttar Pradesh has been cleared of theft charges after 29 years of court battles, CNN IBN reports.
Umakant Mishra, a postman working at Harjinder Nagar
Post office in Kanpur in
the 1980s, was accused of pocketing a money order for Rs 57.60 and was
immediately suspended from his job.
Mishra had to undergo the ordeal of attending almost 350 Court hearings in last three decades.
Twenty-nine years later, the ordeal ended for
Mishra as the Court finally declared him not guilty. However Mishra not only
lost his livelihood but also his self-respect. His family members too had to
face the humiliation of the false charges levelled against him.
According to the CNN IBN report, the civil
society now has demanded compensation and justice for the ex-postman for his
sufferings.
